Explore the book “Railway Flora” by Ernesto Schick, recommended by our LUCA friend Alvise Pagnacco. This book combines two aspects that are important to Alvise: botany and railway infrastructure. He also appreciates the interesting and amazing drawings of the flora made by the author.
Schick has dedicated himself to observing, classifying and illustrating the wild vegetation that infests the grounds of the international railway station in Chiasso. The book collects writings and original illustrations from the author, scientific updates and a literary intervention by the poet Fabio Pusterla.
First published in 1980, “Railway Flora” has maintained all its original charm and its bond with the territory, and with the history of one of the symbols of its economic development. This painstaking research also examines the complex relationship between human beings and their environment, so offering a testimony which remains as intriguing as it ever was.
