A JOURNEY THROUGH STAINED GLASSES

By LUCA team

Create city-landscapes, night views, patterns and more thanks to this thousand-year-old technique!
Replace the metal structure and the coloured glass with black cardboard and tissue paper…and it’s done! You can have your home-made stained glass wherever you like.

Did you know that in Luxembourg there are around 500 churches and buildings with stained glasses? You can travel and discover them!

You can start from the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City, which contains some stained glasses made by the same artist who created the ones in the Cathedral of Metz. Or in the east of the country in the Basilica in Echternach and, in the north, Saint-Sebastien Church in Ettelbruck (here you can find an old panorama of the city). Going to the south, visit the oldest and largest church of Esch-sur-Alzette: Saint-Joseph Church. And learn more about this technique from the most ancient workshop in Luxembourg: the studio Linster in Mondorf-les-Bains, nowadays named Vitraux d’art Bauer & Rathmann.

Back from your journey, unleash your creativity and realise beautiful artworks for you and your friends!

Download hereafter the PDF instructions for this activity. Inside you will find the Luxembourg City landscape and a Belval night view to print, plus some tips to help you create your own artwork. They are available in English and in French.

Be proud of your great job, take some photos and send them – with your first name – by email to Giulia (g.zatti[a]luca.lu). We will publish them here!
